> Remote Acupuncture Systems
RAS is a product based around the ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture. It however gives it a twist: first removing the element of human intuition, the user must engage in trusting the technology to diagnose and fulfil the procedure correctly; second hiding the belief system of acupuncture behind the aesthetic of consumer electronics, engaging the user with belief without a notion of questioning it; third, bringing a disguised esoteric practice directly into the home.

RAS is proposed as a product, coming with 4 acupuncture modules and a USB interface. On purchase the user plugs the interface into their home computer and is instantly brought to the online RAS diagnosis tool, where they enter their symptoms and are diagnosed. Instructions then follow telling the user how to locate the acu-modules on their body, then on the users request the treatment begins.

This project is a discursive design piece proposing the question, How can the nature of technology help support and reinforce a belief system? Exhibited at [annotations] in 2007.
